Westminster Abbey is located in London, England. It was built on a former Benedictine Monastery and west of the Houses of Parliament. Saint Edward the Confessor started the construction between 1045 and 1050 because he had vowed to go on a pilgrimage but he broke that vow and the Pope decided that he could redeem himself by building and abbey. The architecture of Westminster Abbey is in French Gothic style. It has rib vault ceiling and gothic arches. Westminster abbey is 156 meters long, 62 meters wide at the transepts, its nave is 12 meters wide and 31 meters tall, the highest in all of England. Many famous people and monarchs are buried in Westminster Abbey.
